Fabulous Bend date ideas for any sort of occasion

Valentine’s Day might come once a year, but Bend has a bounty of delightful date options all year long. To get you in the mood for whichever type tickles your fancy, here are some ideas for your next great date. But first, a quiz:

A date for wine lovers

While Oregon’s most famous wine regions lie on the rainier side of the state to the west, Bend’s tasting rooms bring bottles from across the state and around the globe right to your glass, giving you the best of both worlds.

Where should you go to taste great wine in Bend? In the Old Mill District, you can split a taster tray or a bottle rooted in the Pacific Northwest at Va Piano Vineyards and Evoke Winery. Afterwards, take a stroll along the Deschutes River Trail for some fresh air, bird watching and a nice pause before round two.

Next, head north to the Box Factory to compare pinots at Stoller Wine Bar, Elixir Wine Group, The Winery at Manzanita, and Bledsoe Family Winery. Grab a meal at one of these stops to pair with your vino, or hit a nearby food cart for something different. Hasta que Olividemos serves wines and vermouths only available on site, as well as delicious oysters. Are they an aphrodisiac? Time to find out.

Flights Wine Bar has an excellent selection of curated wines from around the globe alongside savory meals made for date nights. Since you’re headed that direction, keep going toward Northwest Crossing, where longtime wine spot Portello Winecafe offers amazing flights and flatbreads.

A couple enjoy a picnic along the shore of Elk Lake on the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway.

A date for outdoorsy romantics

Bend’s well-known as a town where you can plan multiple outdoor adventures in one day, and winter has tons of picks.

How about a morning of skiing together at Mt. Bachelor, followed by a lunchtime fat bike ride at Wanoga Sno-Park? Or in town, enjoy a round of disc golf at Pine Nursery Park, capped off with an early evening high desert hike at Riley Ranch Nature Reserve. A quick scan of Visit Bend’s winter fun page can help spark ideas—then pick a couple that sound most your speed.

Once you’ve landed on your plan, grab a map and group your outings by location. For instance, fly fishing for rainbow trout on a mild day on the Crooked River pairs well with the sweeping high desert views of hiking Chimney Rock

Speaking of hiking, head out east of Bend to the Oregon Badlands Wilderness for a serene stroll through ancient junipers and sage. And if you want to show your dog-besty some love, this is a perfect winter spot to walk the pooch.

Right across the highway, mountain biking awaits at the Horse Ridge Trailhead. If the trails are not muddy and snow-free, grab some wheels and make a few climbs and super sweet descents. Those who bike together, stay together.

Fuel up for your adventure

Make the most of mealtimes by seeking out on-the-go breakfast options. For later in the day, pack a picnic with goodies from Newport Avenue Market, an employee-owned grocery with a stellar deli and trail-ready snacks all in one stop. Locavore, a community market, is stocked with seasonal produce, local meats, bread, and goods sourced directly from regional farms. Or, snag fresh, ready-to-go fare at Wild Petals Provisions, with fresh salads, hearty sandwiches, and baked treats so you can set up a sweet lunch date at the Meissner Shelter while you cross country ski.

A stargazer’s ultimate date night

If you and your lovebug have stars in your eyes, look up!

Where can you go stargazing near Bend? Easy! The Oregon Badlands Wilderness or the Scenic River section of the Crooked River Canyon should do the trick. Just don’t forget something chocolaty in that thermos and a blanket big enough for two.

If you’d rather leave the driving to someone else, book a moonlight snowshoe or Fort Rock stargazing adventure with Wanderlust Tours. They’ll provide all the gear and an awesome naturalist guide, plus snacks and drinks. Fun fact: They’ve had more than one proposal happen on these adventures over the years, so get that ring ready if you plan to pop the question.

You could also stick close to town with a Bend Ale Trail stop at Worthy Brewing. Grab dinner and a beer, then head for your appointment in the Hopservatory to gaze at the heavens through their powerful telescope.

A posh date for luxe-loving lovers

Sometimes you want something swanky. Bend can deliver!

Start with a spa date for two at one of Bend’s luxurious day spas. Get tandem facials or a couples’ massage at Anjou Spa or Summit Spa to begin your day of bliss in style.

Next, some shopping. Head for the Old Mill District for stops at local retailers like Vanilla Urban Threads, Kara’s Kitchenware, and Hello Sunshine. Downtown Bend is packed with local shops for every kind of sweetie. We recommend handmade jewelry at Bronwen Jewelry and locally made pottery, bags, and furniture at Natural Kinships

Keep the love going and enjoy a romantic stroll in Drake Park. Perfect for soaking up those reflective river views while stretching your legs before dinner. Bonus: You’re steps from more fabulous jewelry shops if a little sparkle sounds like your love language.

As evening rolls in, dress things up with pre-dinner cocktails at San Simon or a glass of wine at FERM and Fare, then off to dinner. Bos Taurus is a classic choice for those who love a mouthwatering steak. Ariana offers an intimate, refined Italian menu that’s molto buono. Zydeco Kitchen & Cocktails combines southern flair and PNW ingredients. And yes, you absolutely have to order the shrimp and grits appetizer. Trust us.

Where to go for a low-key date night?

Not every date night needs a reservation or flowers. Sometimes the best ones are a little untraditional.

How about volunteering together? At Family Kitchen, you can cook and serve meals side by side and genuinely make a difference for those in need. Prefer to be outdoors? Pair a sunset stroll with a quick litter pickup. It’s an easy way to give back and spend some quality time together.

How about channeling your artistic side? Freak’n Art offers classes perfect for would-be Picassos, from painting and drawing to block printing and more. Some classes are drop-in, while others are best reserved ahead of time. At Studio Create, you can paint your custom coffee mug, flower vase, or even something to stash your love letters. You bring the creativity and the laughs; they handle the firing and finish work. We’ve had friends even take a welding class together at DIY Cave.

How about a movie in an intimate, old-school-looking theater? Tin Pan Theater in downtown Bend screens indie films, cult favorites, documentaries and more. Trade the megaplex for something with way more character and a setting that feels made for date night. If early 2000s Mathew McConaughey and Jennifer Lopez swoon in the romance for you, then renting a rom-com from the very last Blockbuster Video is a must. Top it off with some takeout from Cuban Kitchen or Bruno’s 6th Street Market and snuggle up for a low-key night.
