If you’re planning on bringing a drone along with you on your adventures, please take a moment to review all federal, local, and state laws. Bend is surrounded primarily by public lands, so there are plenty of areas off-limits to drones to protect wildlife. Drones are illegal to operate in all Wilderness areas. At the same time, all Bend Parks and Recreation facilities permit drones to the extent that they do not endanger the comfort, health, peace, or safety of others or cause harm to property. During wildfire season, it’s also important to remember that drones can cause enormous headaches for those trying to protect our forests. Before any flight, always check the FAA’s B4UFly App and reference the maps for any temporary flight restrictions (TFRs) to ensure a safe and legal flight.
