Pro Tip

When Bend is turning into a winter wonderland and the kids are itching to soar down the slopes, keep everyone warm, comfy, and hopefully tear-free, by bringing these items with you:

  1. Begin with warm base layers, and add a removable mid-layer as temperatures fluctuate.
  2. Opt for water-resistant and wind-proof outerwear, including pants and a jacket. Complete the look with a beanie and gloves or mittens.
  3. Wear boots or shoes that are both sturdy and waterproof.
  4. Don’t underestimate the sun’s glare on snow—pack sunscreen and an SPF lip balm.
  5. Stay hydrated and energized with lots of water and some delicious snacks on hand!

Where to get a sled

In search of a fast and snow-ready toboggan? Outdoor shops like REI, Powder House, and even ACE Hardware will stock tubes, sleds, and saucers. However, during the peak of winter, stock can dwindle, so it’s wise to plan ahead or have a sled in tow when you arrive in Bend.

When heading out on your sledding adventure in Bend, it’s crucial to prioritize both etiquette and safety to ensure everyone enjoys the snowy slopes. Always be aware of your surroundings and wait your turn. Avoid sledding down a hill until it’s clear of people to prevent collisions. When you reach the bottom, promptly move to the side to allow others a clear path.
