π¨π₯ Heads up, Central Oregon! The Bend-Fort Rock Ranger District firefighters are gearing up for a prescribed burn today, just one mile west of Bend near the Cascade Lakes Welcome Station. If the weather cooperates, they plan to ignite up to 344 acres south of the Cascades Lakes Highway, near Aspen Day Use and Dillion Falls Day Use areas. π Around 10 a.m.β¨π Tiddlywinks 8/9 Prescribed Burn area (one mile west of Bend near the Cascade Lakes Welcome Station)β¨π₯Ύ Trail Closures: Catch and Release Trail (from Storm King to Tylerβs Traverse)β¨π Road Closures: Forest Service Roads 600, 650, and southbound lane of Forest Service Road 41 (with pilot cars guiding traffic) Why This Matters: π₯ Forest Health: Prescribed burns reintroduce and maintain fire in fire-dependent ecosystems, helping stabilize and improve forest resiliency.β¨π‘ Community Safety: By reducing vegetation, these burns decrease the severity of potential wildfires, protecting homes and communities.β¨π² Wildfire Crisis Strategy: This burn is part of the Central Oregon Landscape, a focal area in the Forest Serviceβs strategy to tackle the wildfire crisis. What to Expect: π«οΈ Smoke Visibility: Smoke will be visible from Bend and nearby areas. Residents in Bend, Sunriver, and La Pine should keep doors and windows closed to minimize smoke impacts, especially overnight and early morning. These proactive steps help to ensure a safer, healthier forest and community moving forward. For more details, visit the Deschutes National Forest website or contact the Bend-Fort Rock Ranger District.
