Wanderlust Tours | Oregon Outback Adventure: Hiking, Dinner, & Stargazing
September 7 at 3:00 pm - 11:30 pm
$245![](https://visitbend.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/event-image-16.png)
Adventure: Join us for a day of exploration in the Oregon Outback. On our adventure, we will hike around the stunning Fort Rock and visit the Homestead Village Museum before heading to the infamous Cowboy Dinner Tree in Silver Lake, Oregon for a mouth-watering meal. After we’ve had our fill, we will venture to Hole-in-the-Ground and immerse ourselves in the night sky!
Naturalist Guided Experience: Fort Rock is a natural wonder that rises out of the flatness of the Oregon high desert. It is an area that is locally referred to as the Sagebrush Ocean, a stunning piece of America’s landscape filled with coyotes, cowboys, and some of the earliest evidence of human civilization in North America. The tuff ring of Ft. Rock’s pinnacles rise above an ancient ocean bed and much like the geologic history of other Central Oregon formations such as Smith Rock, the area’s geology can be traced back to volcanic activity. After a delicious meal at Cowboy Dinner Tree, we will head to Hole-in-the-Ground, an ancient volcanically formed crater that lies just north of the newly designated Oregon Outback Dark Sky Sanctuary.
The Oregon Outback as a whole, is the largest contiguous dark sky shed in the United States, boasting some of the best stargazing in the entire world. That, coupled with an early 9:00pm moonset will make this night truly spectacular!
